Dr. Patrick RWAGATARE is a PhD holder in Clinical Psychology from Catholic University of Louvain, in Belgium. Since 2004, he provides clinical interventions for people who suffer from trauma, especially during periods of genocide commemorations in Rwanda.
He is also a guest lecturer (chargé de cours invité) at the University of Rwanda (UR) in post graduate program, Psychiatry department, School of medicine at College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Patrick RWAGATARE has research interests in treatment development and evaluation of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) especially related on sexual violence, Depression and Substance Abuse, Global Mental Health, maternal and child health, behavior change and Community-based interventions. His most recent research activities were as co-investigator of a national survey “Rwanda National Mental Health Survey 2018” funded by the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Health and Johnson & Johnson. He also contributed – as a collaborator – to the research project “Community-based intervention for perinatal depression in Rwanda” funded by Grand Challenge Canada.
Dr. Patrick RWAGATARE has conducted consultancies for several institutions in Rwanda including the Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Biomedical Center, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), National Service of Gacaca and other National and International NGOs such as Avocats Sans Frontières, IBUKA, AVEGA-AGAHOZO, HAGURUKA ASBL: Association for the Promotion and Defence of Rights of Women and Child, etc.
